you said you won't spend the rest of your life alone. everyone crowds around you. "open up your presents," we used to say. you just closed your eyes and we don't know where you go, we don't know.
i don't know the shape of day. sometimes it sits easy on the windowsill and sometimes it's as big as the whole room, empty and still.
you used to always dress in white and we walked through the woods to the store. i remember i couldn't always fit on your shoulders so i got used to walking after a while. "when are we going to go there," i used to say. you just closed your eyes and i don't know where you go, i don't know.
oh, when we are older you will fall and break your arm and i will drive you home if i have to, i will drive you home because i want to.
